Operations Manager C.A. Vines
Arkansas 4-H Center

Nature and Purpose

The Operations Manager is a faculty member of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas and provides leadership in maintaining and managing the C. A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists the Center Director in determining staffing needs in Housekeeping, Food Service and Maintenance,

• Works with the Center Director in scheduling Extension, 4-H, school, churches, businesses and other groups for booking needs and makes sure needs are met upon arrival.

• Assures that meeting rooms are set up, including tables, chairs, audio and visual equipment or other special needs as requested.

• Assures that lodging facilities are cleaned, maintained and properly prepared for scheduled guests.

• Prepares information for billing and other requested reports for the 4-H Center Director.

• Supervises and maintains the total operation of a gift shop, including purchasing, inventory and cash control.

• Assists 4-H Center Director in determining training needs and conducting training for Center staff.

• Identify policy needs and recommend changes when necessary.

• Assists the 4-H Center Director in marketing the Center.

• Assists other 4-H specialists at the Center in conducting their program when needed.  

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships

• Responsible administratively to the Associate Director for Family, Youth, & 4-H Education.

• Responsible to the 4-H Center Director for decisions relating to the general operation and maintenance of the C. A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center.

• Works within the Memorandum of Agreement established between the Arkansas 4-H Foundation and the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas.

• Maintains a peer relationship with other Extension 4-H Specialist assigned to the Center and the Family, Youth and 4-H office.

• Serves as a member of the 4-H center management team and works with the Food Service Manager and the Maintenance Supervisor for the efficient operation of the Center.

• Maintains rapport with other subject matter specialists, county, district and administrative extension personnel.  

• Maintains rapport with Center Advisory Council members.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• B. S. degree in recreation, hotel management, or related field with a minimum of 2 years experience in facilities management.

• Experience in youth programming desirable.  

• Experience in personnel management preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong commitment to youth programming.

• Sufficient knowledge of the 4-H program and other Extension educational programming methods.

• Possess a sincere interest in people and an outgoing personality.

• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Strong computer skills.

• Ability to prepare and analyze budgets and funding proposals.

• Ability to resolve personnel conflicts efficiently and professionally.

• Ability to organize and implement management practices in a harmonious setting.  

• Physical and mental ability to effectively perform duties and responsibilities related to the job, including long and irregular working hours.
