Accounting Technician I (Grade 12)

Nature and Purpose
The Accounting Technician I is a staff member of the Cooperative
Extension Service, University of Arkansas.
The Accounting Technician I position involves the auditing of travel
expense accounts for accuracy and adherence to state and University
travel regulations, preparing travel reports, processing payrolls,
vouchers, and checks, and assembling vouchers and posting to accounting
records.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Counsels with faculty and staff regarding payrolls, travel plans, and
expense accounts.
• Makes airline reservations.
• Processes in-state and out-of-state travel expense accounts, issues
checks, and maintains related records.
• Audits expense accounts in accordance with policy and procedures.
• Audits invoices against purchase orders for accuracy.
• Prepares payrolls accurately and submits by due date.
• Maintains monthly records on state vehicles and prepares quarterly
vehicle reports.
• Sets up and maintains various filing systems for transactions,
categories, subsidiary accounts, and the general ledger.
• Operates computer terminal and typewriter in performing duties.
• Performs general clerical duties. Performs other duties as
assigned.
Relationships
• Works in the Extension business office under the direct supervision of an
Extension
• Management Specialist or other assigned supervisor. Establishes
and maintains effective working relationships with superiors and
associates.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• High school graduate (equivalency certificate accepted).
• One year of experience in bookkeeping.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to type 45 N.W.P.M. (per Extension typing test).
• Ability to perform data entry functions.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping procedures and methods.
• Ability to compile basic information into reports.
• Ability to set up and maintain filing systems.
• Ability to operate general office machines.
• Ability to communicate effectively both in person and by
telephone.
