Grounds and Maintenance Assistant

Nature and Purpose
The Grounds and Maintenance Assistant is a staff member of
the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas.
The Grounds and Maintenance Assistant assists in the
maintenance of the grounds and physical plant at the State Extension headquarters or the
C. A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Performs grounds maintenance, including weed control,
mowing, shrub and flower bed maintenance, litter control, and maintenance of trails,
roads, and bridges.
•
Performs building maintenance, including electrical,
plumbing, and mechanical repairs, painting, etc.
•
Assists maintenance technician in operation and maintenance
of water treatment and waste water treatment plants. (4-H Center only)
•
Assists in maintenance of outdoor facilities and equipment,
including but not limited to swimming pool, basketball court, fire ring, log seats,
baseball diamond, volleyball court, pavilion, amphitheater, ropes course, canoes, and
sailboats. (4-H Center only)
•
Assists in maintenance of equipment, including tractors,
mowers, weed eater, chainsaw, power tools, hand tools, etc.
Relationships
•
Works under the supervision of the 4-H Center Director or
the Plant Maintenance Supervisor.
•
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships
with supervisors and associates.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
•
High school graduate (equivalency certificate accepted).
•
One year of related work experience preferred.
•
Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical repair, and
painting.
•
Ability to learn maintenance procedures.
•
Ability to perform functions in an outdoor setting in all
weather conditions.
•
Physical ability to perform manual labor tasks including
climbing, stooping, bending, and heavy lifting.
•
Ability to operate tractor, mower, and various power tools.
