Grants Officer

Nature and Purpose
The Grants Officer is a member of the
Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas Financial Services
support unit. The position is responsible for identifying possibilities for and
facilitating specialist grant writing and for the
development of organizational - wide grant proposals.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities
• Maintains a current
list of grant opportunities for specialists and administration.
• Notifies subject matter specialists of
grant opportunities within their area of specialty.
• Coordinates budgetary information needed
for grant preparation with project coordinators or
specialists preparing grant proposals.
• Reviews grants prepared by Cooperative
Extension faculty and offers constructive feedback.
• Develops grant proposals for
organization-wide projects.
• Conducts post grants administration
conferences between project coordinator, grant post-award personnel and any
administrative personnel assigned to the grant.
• Initiates appropriate salary
distribution adjustments.
• Reviews reporting deadlines.
• Reviews equipment purchasing guidelines
and time lines to be met.
• Reviews all aspects of the grant budget.
Relationships
• Works under the
administrative leadership of the Director of Financial Services. Must maintain
a good working relationship with all Extension faculty
and frequently represents the organization with cooperating partners in grant
preparation.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• B. S. or B. A. degree
required.
• Experience in grants preparation and
community collaboration preferred.
• Experience in Cooperative Extension
preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of the
mission, objectives and educational delivery of the Cooperative Extension
Service.
• Good written and oral communication
skills.
• Ability to follow oral and written
instructions.
• Ability to handle multiple projects at
once.
• Ability to coordinate between
departments and with a variety of individuals within the organization.
• Knowledge of educational program
delivery and the application for Cooperative Extension.
• Ability to prepare and manage budgets.
• Attention to detail and the ability to
manage the detailed requirements of the various grant agencies.
• Ability to understand federal and state
funding and grant regulations.
