Extension Specialist Assistant

Nature and Purpose

The Extension Specialist Assistant is a staff member of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas.

The Extension Specialist Assistant provides specialized support and assistance for an Extension specialist.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists specialist in gathering information for research or for the preparation of written materials.

• Makes arrangements for facility and equipment use.

• Travels to attend functions and observe particular activity in absence of specialist or at specialist's request.

• Assists with preparation of visuals for oral presentations made by specialist.

• Assists with conduct of educational activities. ]

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships

• Works under the supervision of an Extension Specialist or other assigned supervisor.  

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with superiors and associates.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school graduate (equivalency certificate accepted).  

• Two years of experience in the appropriate area of specialization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of methods and procedures related to the area of specialization.

• Ability to gather information.

• Ability to review and assess collected information.

• Ability to utilize computer system and appropriate software.

• Ability to exercise initiative, make sound judgments, be discreet, and assume responsibility.

• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.

• Physical and mental ability to effectively perform duties and responsibilities related to the job, including frequent travel. (Some positions may require ability to move about in plowed or flooded crop fields and/or to work in livestock facilities under conditions of extreme heat or cold.)
