Nature and PurposeThe District Director is a faculty member of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas, and may hold a concurrent appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The District Director is the administrator in charge of all Extension operations in an assigned district. The District Director provides overall administrative leadership in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Extension programs in all counties within the district. The District Director develops and maintains effective personnel management and public relations programs in the district. Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Planning • Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of the Extension program planning process and supervises county faculty in carrying out program planning. Program Implementation • Supervises county faculty in implementing their respective plans of work. Program Evaluation • Conducts continuous evaluation of the overall Extension program in counties within the district. Fiscal Management • Develops budget recommendations for county appropriations and works with county government officials either directly or through county Extension agents - staff chair. Personnel Management • Recruits and selects personnel for faculty positions within the district. Administrative Management • Approves requests for leave, travel authorization requests, and other administrative items as appropriate. Civil Rights/Equal Opportunity • Responsible for compliance with civil rights regulations in programs and employment throughout the district. Other Performs other duties as assigned. Relationships• Responsible to the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension for administrative, supervisory, and program matters within the district. QualificationsEducation and Experience • Master's degree required, with at least one degree in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, or related fields of study. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of history, philosophy, objectives, and methods of Cooperative Extension work. ApprovalDavid E.
