Nature and Purpose
The Director Public Policy Center is a faculty member of the Cooperative
Extension Service and the Agriculture Economics Department, Division of
Agriculture, University of Arkansas, and may hold a concurrent appointment with
the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Incumbent is responsible for giving leadership for the development of UofA
Division of Agriculture Extension and Research programs on a wide range of
public policy issues relevant to Arkansas citizens.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
| |
Provides leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs in the assigned area. |
| |
Coordinates development of plans of work and reports.
|
| |
Coordinates dissemination
of research information and the development of Extension education
programs. |
| |
Counsels with department
heads and district director teams in analyzing problem situations and
program needs. |
| |
Supervises faculty and support staff assigned to the program area.
|
| |
Serves as liaison with officials of state and federal agencies and other segments of the
University of Arkansas System as appropriate. |
| |
Responsible for compliance with applicable civil rights regulations in area of
assignment. |
| |
Performs other duties as assigned. |
Relationships
| |
Reports to the Assistant
Director of Community and Economic Development. |
| |
Establishes and maintains
effective working relationships with federal, state, and university
officials, farm organizations, commodity groups, other organizations, and
the general public. |
Qualifications
Education and Experience
| |
Doctorate preferred; Master
required. Training and experience in an appropriate discipline required.
|
| |
Five years of professional
Extension experience preferred. |
| |
Experience in planning and
implementing collaborative research and educational programs required. |
| |
Administrative experience
preferred |
| |
|
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
| |
Knowledge of the history, philosophy, objectives,
and methods of both Research and Extension in the Land Grant System |
| |
Knowledge of the social, economic, political, and
cultural factors affecting both Research and Extension. |
| |
Ability to develop and manage innovative programs
that link the resources of the Division of Agriculture to policy
issues important to Arkansas citizens. |
| |
Ability to develop rapport with the general public,
commodity organizations, and other groups concerned with the program
areas served. |
| |
Ability to speak and write clearly, and to convey
ideas effectively to faculty, staff, and the general public. |
| |
Physical and mental ability to effectively perform
duties and responsibilities related to the job, including long and
irregular hours of work and frequent travel. |
| |
Demonstrated ability to develop financial support
for programs important to the Division of Agricultures Policy
Research and Extension mission. |
