Director of Staff and Leadership Development

Nature and Purpose

The Director of Staff and Leadership Development is a faculty member of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas, and may hold a concurrent appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Director of Staff and Leadership Development works under the immediate supervision of the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension. The Director of Staff and Leadership Development has responsibilities in the areas of program coordination, staff development, strategic program planning, and development of plans of work and reports of accomplishments.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Program Coordination (60%)Coordinates and directs LeadAR leadership development program.

Administration (40%)

• Coordinates staff efforts in strategic program planning.  

• Coordinates development of in-service training opportunities for Extension faculty.  

• Provides leadership in preparation of annual plans of work and reports of accomplishments. Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships

• Responsible to the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension for all duties and responsibilities.  

• Maintains working relationships with staff members of the University of Arkansas, Extension Service - USDA, and other agencies and organizations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred in appropriate field of study.  

• Minimum of five years of professional experience, preferably in the public sector.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to interpret and apply appropriate regulations, policies, and procedures.  

• Ability to speak and write clearly and communicate ideas effectively.  

• Ability to work effectively with persons of varying levels of education and responsibility.  

• Knowledge of principles of management and education.  

• Physical and mental ability to perform duties and responsibilities related to the job, including long and irregular hours of work and frequent travel.
