Director of Physical Plant

Nature and Purpose
The Director of Physical Plant serves on the staff of the Associate Vice President for
Agriculture - Extension, working under the immediate supervision of the Associate Director
- Management and Operations. The Director of Physical Plant is responsible for maintenance
of the Extension complex, grounds, custodial and warehouse operations and the Cammack
campus for grounds, maintenance and custodial operations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Employs, supervises and evaluates associate director of physical plant, plant
maintenance supervisor, facilities maintenance supervisor, custodial supervisors,
landscape supervisor.
•
Coordinates maintenance of Extension motor pool vehicles.
• Resonsively for issuing and collecting office keys and security cards
•
Approves work schedules for building maintenance, custodial and grounds staffs.
•
Inspects buildings and grounds to determine needed maintenance and work performed.
•
Handles complaints on buildings and grounds.
•
Requests purchase of needed supplies and equipment.
•
Maintains adequate inventory of supplies.
•
Assists with Federal Excess Property program.
•
Responsible for overall training needs of the physical plant.
•
Recommends improvements to buildings and grounds.
•
Coordinates set up, clean up and scheduling of the educational wing.
•
Responsible for scheduled maintenance on heating and air system.
•
Responsible for custodial and building and grounds maintenance for the University of
Arkansas Systems building.
Relationships
•
Responsible to the Associate Director - Management and Operations for all duties and
responsibilities.
•
Maintains working relationship with faculty and staff members of the University of
Arkansas, Cooperative Extension Service, and other organizations and vendors.
•
Maintains a working relationship with University of Arkansas at Little Rock security
division.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
•
High school graduate, additional education preferred.
•
Minimum of five years of building maintenance or related experience.
•
Minimum of five years of supervisory experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities
•
Good communications skills.
•
Ability to work with a broad group of people with various educational levels.
•
Ability to write specifications for bids.
•
Ability to procure and receive equipment and supplies.
•
Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work.
•
Ability to supervise people.
•
Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
•
Ability to recruit and hire qualified staff.
•
Knowledge of state purchasing rules and regulations.
•
Knowledge of personnel policies.
