Custodial Worker I (Grade 3)

Nature and Purpose

The Custodial Worker I is a staff member of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas.

The Custodial Worker I position involves the general cleaning of the Cooperative Extension Service state headquarters facility.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Empties wastebaskets, dumps trash, and replaces trash bags.

• Wipes clean furniture, such as desk tops, tables, and other surfaces.

• Cleans floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping as required.

• Cleans rest room facilities.

• Replaces paper towels and tissue as needed and maintains adequate supplies of each.

• Notifies supervisor of maintenance and repairs needed in areas cleaned.  

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships

• Works under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Physical Plant.  

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with superiors and associates.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Completion of sufficient education or training to read and write.  

• Experience in custodial work or related area preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture.

• Ability to perform manual labor under varying working conditions.  

• Ability to do required lifting.
