Assistant Director Physical Plant

Nature and Purpose
The Assistant to the Director of the Physical Plant is a staff member
of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas. The
Assistant to the Director of the Physical Plant is responsible for the
supervision of the custodial staff at the Extension Service Complex and
the Cammack campus.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervises custodial staff at the Cooperative Extension Service and Cammack
campus.
• Trains all custodial personnel in the proper care of floors and
furniture.
• Ensures each custodian is trained in the proper mixing and use of
cleaning chemicals.
• Responsible for building security each night at both the Extension
Complex and the Cammack campus.
• Counsels staff as required concerning work performance and quality
of work.
• Writes performance reports on personnel.
• Inventories and maintains the appropriate inventory of custodial
supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Relationships
• Reports to the Director of Physical Plant.
• Maintains a cordial relationship with all Extension employees
located at the Extension Complex and University employees on the
Cammack campus.
• Represents the University of Arkansas and Cooperative Extension
Service to outside groups using the meeting facilities at night and on
weekends.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• High school graduate or equivalent certification.
• Janitorial or custodial experience required.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, how to use them and proper storage.
• Knowledge and ability to use floor cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of specific care of floor and furniture surfaces.
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to supervise people.
• Good communication skills.
• Physical and mental ability to perform necessary tasks of the
job.
