Associate Director - Programs

Nature and Purpose

The Associate Director is a faculty member of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas, and may hold a concurrent appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Associate Director assists the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension in administration of Cooperative Extension work in the areas of planning, implementation, and evaluation of Extension programs at the state and area level.

• Responsible to the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension for all duties and responsibilities.

• Cooperates with Associate Director of Finance and Administration and the Associate Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station.

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with federal, state, and university officials, partner organizations, government agencies and offices, and the general public.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Doctorate in one of the agriculture, natural resources, community development, family and consumer sciences or related field required.

• Ten years of experience, including a minimum of five years in Extension  

• Administrative experience desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the history, philosophy, objectives, and methods of Cooperative Extension work.

• Knowledge of the social, economic, political, and cultural factors affecting Extension work.

• Knowledge of the relationship between Extension and Research functions.

• Ability to develop and manage innovative programs in Extension or related activities.

• Ability to develop rapport with the general public, commodity organizations, and other groups concerned with the program areas served.

• Ability to speak and write clearly, and to convey ideas effectively to faculty, staff, and the general public.  

• Physical and mental ability to effectively perform duties and responsibilities related to the job, including long and irregular hours of work and frequent travel.
