Associate Director - Finance and Administration

Nature and Purpose

The Associate Director is a faculty member of the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas, and may hold a concurrent appointment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Associate Director assists the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension in administration of Cooperative Extension work in the various areas of management and operations support.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Director accepts administrative assignments from the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension that may include:

• Serves as the Chief Fiscal Officer for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.

• Responsibility for all financial management and administrative support faculty.

• Assists Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension in all business operations.

• Administrative oversight include:

Financial Services
Affirmative Action Office
Human Resources
Information Technology
Communications
Physical Plant
Printing Services

• Administering Extension programs in compliance with applicable state and federal laws, including but not limited to the Smith-Lever Act, Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, and other acts dealing with programs and employment.

• Other duties as assigned.

• Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Cooperative Extension Service in the absence of the Associate Vice President.

Relationships

• Responsible to the Associate Vice President for Agriculture - Extension for all duties and responsibilities.  

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with federal, state, and university officials, partner organizations, government agencies and offices, and the general public.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Minimum of a master's degree in one of the agriculture, forestry, family and consumer sciences, or administration disciplines required.  

• Ten years of experience in Finance and Administration, preferably in higher education and environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the history, philosophy, objectives, and methods of Cooperative Extension work.

• Knowledge of management principles.

• Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply regulations, policies, and procedures in areas related to management operations.

• Ability to speak and write clearly and communicate ideas effectively.

• Ability to work effectively with persons of varying levels of education and responsibility both within and outside the organization.  

• Physical and mental ability to effectively perform duties and responsibilities related to the job, including long and irregular hours of work and frequent travel.
