4-H Program Assistant - Youth

Nature and Purpose
The Program Assistant - Youth is a staff member of the
Cooperative Extension Service, University of Arkansas. The program
assistant receives basic training in a subject-matter field and applies
this training in working with persons in the subject-matter field.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
• Recruits volunteers for club expansion.
• Assists in organizing and maintaining community 4-H clubs.
• Assists with conducting school enrichment programs.
• Conducts follow-up for school enrichment in order to organize new
clubs.
• Assists county agent in training of 4-H volunteers.
• Works with 4-H members in record keeping.
• Assists 4-H members in preparation for competitive events.
• Assists in conducting 4-H activities and events.
• Assists in marketing and promoting 4-H as part of the overall
Extension program.
• Attends in-service training education programs and conferences to
gain an understanding of 4-H (youth work).
• Recruits individuals and families and volunteers for the 4-H
program.
• Performs simple demonstrations on a one-to-one or group basis in
4-H project work.
• Maintains necessary records and completes necessary reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Relationships
• Works under the supervision of the County Extension Agent-Staff Chair or
another professional staff member or senior program assistant as designated by
the staff Chair.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with
superiors, associates, and clientele.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Completion of 10th grade required.
• Some formal or informal experience in the subject-matter field or
a related field.
• Appropriate post-high school training may be substituted for
experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to learn subject matter.
• Ability to speak and write clearly.
• Ability to work with and motivate others.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to relate to clientele.
• Ability to travel regularly within assigned area.
