Career Service Recognition Payment Program

Policy Number: C.E.S.P. 1-39
Date Revised: 4-17-2008
Supersedes: 10-17-2006

Summary: Establishes policy and procedure governing the Career Service Recognition Award program.

In accordance with Act 386 of 2007 amending Arkansas Code 21-5-106, Career Service Recognition Payment, all Extension employees except academic faculty are eligible for annual career service recognition payments upon completion of ten (10) or more years of state service in classified or non-classified regular full-time positions. Faculty is defined as Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors, University Professors, and Distinguished Professors. If an employee's career spans service in both faculty and non-faculty positions, only the non-faculty periods of service are creditable for the Career Service Recognition Payment program.

Payments are made as follows:

10 through 14 years of state service         $600
15 through 19 years of state service
$700
20 through 24 years of state service
$800
25 or more years of state service
$900

Periods of leave without pay (F.M.L.A.) and active military service when veterans' reemployment rights are exercised may be considered creditable service for the Career Service Recognition Payment program. Payments are made to qualifying employees in their regular paycheck immediately following the qualifying date of employment (career service credit date).

Effective July 1, 2007, if you are contributing to a retirement plan, Career Service Recognition Payments will be subject to retirement contribution deductions.  These deductions will be matched by Extension in the same proportion as deductions from your regular paycheck.  As in the past, Career Service Recognition Payments are subject to state and federal taxes.
