Installing Printer Driver | Instructions | Impact Statements

The new computers running Windows XP have the Xerox driver built in. You do not need to download the Xerox driver.

Windows 95/98        Windows XP

Installing the Xerox 6180 driver for Windows 95/98

Note: This driver will only work on Windows 95/98!

Close any programs you have running (such as WordPerfect).

If you are not located at the State Office:

• Using your web browser, go to ftp://ftp.uaex.edu/xerox /XDS9598.exe .  Save it to a known location on your C: drive.

• Select Start/Run/Browse and find the file - then select the xds9598.exe file and Open - then select OK.

• Go to the Install Screens section below ---

If you are connected to the State Office network

• select Start/Run/Browse and go to F:\public\xerox6180 and select the xds9598 exe file and Open - then select OK.

• Go to the Install Screens section below....

Install Screens:

  1. At Welcome -
        Next
  2. At Setup Type -
        Custom
        Next

  3. At Select Components -
        In the left window - uncheck XDS
        In the left window - select, but don't check DocuSP
        In the right window - scroll down until you find  and then check 6180 PS3
        Next

  4. At License -
        Yes

  5. At  Port -
        File:
        Next:

  6. At Start Copying Files -
        Next
       
    (If you get a message about locked files - select Yes)

  7. At Setup Complete -
        Yes, I want to restart my computer, this takes a few minutes, so be prepared to wait
        Finish

  8. At Setup Complete -
        Uncheck the README box
        Finish

To install the Xerox printer in Windows XP just go to Start – Settings - Printer and Faxes

Highlight Add Printer and press Enter

Select ‘Next’

Choose ‘Local printer attached to this computer’ and uncheck ‘Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer’.

After selecting ‘Next’ you will see ‘Use the following port’, drop the list and choose ‘File (Print to File)’.

Select ‘Next’ and then choose Xerox under Manufacturers and Xerox DT6180 PS3 v2.0 in the Printers list.

Select ‘Next’

Choose No to setting as default printer and No to printing a test page.

Select ‘Finish’ and you're done.
